Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) announced the Michigan Strategic Fund’s support for an Allegiant Air operational base at Flint Bishop International Airport.

“Genesee County is open for business,” said state Rep. Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint). “Allegiant Air’s decision to focus on Flint will provide more opportunities for travel and lay the groundwork for more investments in our community. With Allegiant Air and others recognizing the opportunities we have to offer, our economy is ready for takeoff.”

Allegiant Air announced plans to open a new operational base in August, which will generate $77 million in investment and create 88 new jobs. Allegiant serves over 130 cities across the country and has been operating out of Bishop Airport since 2016.

“Investments today build tomorrow’s economy,” said state Rep. John Cherry (D-Flint). “Offering new jobs and more travel routes will help draw new talent to our neighborhoods and encourage other businesses to invest in Genesee County.”

“This is an incredible opportunity for our community,” said state Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton). “Bishop has been a hub for many travelers to come to and from Flint. It is quick and convenient. With Allegiant’s investment in the airport, it allows more people to come explore Genesee County and offers more opportunities for Michiganders to see our great nation.”

Me and all my colleagues appreciate what your party does for our union – fighting for the employees’ rights is easier now!
